SPIDO welcomes the decision taken by Authorities from South Sudan and Uganda to form a committee to study and resolve issues of borders encroachments

Support Peace Initiative Development Organization (SPIDO) would like to take this opportunity to applaud the authorities from both South Sudan and Uganda for the quick decision to form a committee to study and resolve issues of the border encroachments.”We are glad to hear that the spoke person of South Sudan ministry of Foreign affairs and international cooperation, Amb Hakim Edward confirmed to the public that the authorities are ready and committed to resolve the border contention, this is very encouraging and motivating to see that our leaders are working to address challenges facing the communities living along the borders which is a threat to their lives in terms of peace and security
“Said Saviour Lazarus SPIDO Executive Director.
SPIDO would like to call upon the politicians and sisterly forces (SSPDF and UPDF) from both countries
to distance themselves from accusations and counteraccusations and any inciting behaviors which may
derail the underway efforts to resolve the disputes of border encroachments and let them leave the
work to the technical committee entrusted to handle border encroachment issues.
SPIDO urges the communities living along the borders to respect their authorities who are mandated
to address the border encroachment issues and they should live in peace and harmony with their
neighboring communities and be vigilant not to accept the negative politics of division, full of violence
by their political leaders who always want to gain their popularity by inciting the ordinary citizens
against one another.
Lastly SPIDO appeals to the IGAD land experts, AU, international friends, NGOs, UN Agencies,
Embassies, CSOs, and FBOs etc to support the processes of resolving issues of borders encroachments
not only in South Sudan- Uganda borders but also other boarders like Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia and DRC
as well.
