CAF Confirms New Dates for AFCON 2021, FIFA World cup Qualifiers 2022

The confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday in its emergency committee has approved dates for the resumption of African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) Cameroon and world Cup 2022 Qatar qualifiers.

“The CAF Emergency Committee has approved the resumption date for the qualifiers of the Total African Cup of Nations Cameroon 2012 and the group stage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” CAF said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The New date’s means that South Sudan Bright Stars will play match day 3 and 4 between 9th and 17th November 2020. Therefore with the confirmation of new dates the Bright Stars will play Match day 5 and 6 from 22nd – 30th March 2021.

South Sudan lost their first two opening games of group B against Malawi and Burkina Faso 1:0 and 2:1 respectively and was posed to play Uganda Cranes before the outbreak of Covid 19.

 Uganda Cranes Tops table standing on 4 points out of two games played but a goal difference separates them from Burkina Faso second place as Malawi occupies third spot with three points and South Sudan sits bottom of the table with zero points out off two games played.

Two teams will qualify in each group in a tournament that will be hosted by Cameroon in January 2021; Whereas CAF has set October 5-13 2020 as an open period for international Friendly matches.

Meanwhile, the 20222 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers will kick off in mid-2020, with the first games expected to take place between March 31st and June 15th while third and fourth days matches will be played at the end of August 30th 2021 and 7th 2021 and the final two group stage games will be played In October 4th and 12th.

Last Year South Sudan played Equatorial Guinea in an attempt to qualify to Qatar 2022 world Cup but failed to win the second game 1:0 after drawing 1:1 in the first game played in Sudanese Capital Khartoum.

Games: Match Day 1 and 2 Dates 31 May and 15 June (World Cup 2022)

               Match Day 3 and 4 Dates 30 August and 7 Sep (World Cup 2022)

               Match 5 and 6 Dates 4-7 October (World Cup) and November 8-16, 2021: Play-Off round (2022 world Cup).
