Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ms. Beatrice Khamisa Wani

H. E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit knows that the women of South Sudan are capable of diligently serving their country, in addition to the significant role they played in the liberation struggle that ushered in the freedom we are now enjoying. He has not only honored women, but also given them a chance to prove to the world that they can compete favorably with their male counterparts. 

One of these great women of South Sudan is H. E. Ambassador Beatrice Khamisa Wani who was appointed Grade One Ambassador on October 16, 2014.

Before her appointment as South Sudan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Beatrice Khamisa Wani; was the South Sudan Ambassador (Head of Mission) to the Federal Republic Germany and prior to that she was South the Sudan Ambassador (Head of Mission) the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa).

Ms. Beatrice holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from the United States International University (USIU) Africa, Nairobi, where she won the Top Student Award in 2005. She obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Land and Water Management from Cranfield Institute of Technology, Silsoe College, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom (1987); and has a certificate in International Relations and Diplomatic Practice as well as Diplomatic Protocol at Clingendael Institute of International Relations, The Hague, The Netherlands (2004); Certificate in Diplomacy and International Relations, University of South Africa (UNISA) Centre for African Renaissance Studies (CARS), Pretoria; and Certificate in Conflict Management, Cape Town (2007).

In 2006 Ms. Wani was appointed by the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) as Director General for Multilateral Relations in the Ministry of Regional Cooperation. With her experience of working for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (1994-2003); and the Regional Government of Southern Sudan (1984-1990), Ms. Beatrice Khamisa Wani effectively coordinated and reviewed the programes of the Intergovernmental and Non-Governmental Organizations in Southern Sudan and coached the staff working under her.  She also acted severally as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation (Currently; Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) whenever the Undersecretary was away on official mission.

In July 2010 Ms. Wani was appointed as member of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau (SSRB), an independent and impartial Institution charged with the conduct of free and fair Referendum in Southern Sudan on the 9 January 2011. On 13 September 2010 Ms. Wani was appointed as Undersecretary of the GOSS Ministry of Peace and CPA Implementation.

Ms. Wani has held the following positions of responsibility: GOSS Administrator to the Third Sudan Consortium, Oslo, Norway (5-7 May 2008); Team leader of Southern Sudan Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Study tour to Liberia (October-November 2008); Board member of the first pilot Microfinance Awards for Southern Sudan (2008) and Team leader for the 1st Preparatory Team for the Arab Investment Conference for Southern Sudan and the Three Transitional Areas that resulted in the Arab League Investment Conference held in Juba in February 2010; Ms. Beatrice also served as Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services in the Republic of South Sudan.

In March 2009 Ms. Wani became a Member of the Southern Sudan Tax Exemption Committee, a Committee charged with screening all the imports entering Southern Sudan. Furthermore, Ms. Wani was Chair of the Committee that drafted and produced the Ministry of Regional Cooperation Policy Framework and Handbook (2009).

In 2010 she was appointed as Member of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau (SSRB), tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the Department of Administration and Finance. In the same year she was appointed as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Peace and CPA Implementation.

Ms. Beatrice Khamisa Wani hails from Central Equatoria State, Morobo County. She was born on 28 July 1959. She is married and has two daughters.

Her Excellency, Ms. Beatrice Khamisa Wani is the second female appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan.
